this is my first cat. had him for about 7 months. we have been thinking of letting him go outside for a while now since he loves it so much. he just sits at the windows all day meowing.

i have been reading arguments for and again letting cats out.....

he hasn't got all of his shots yet so i will take care of that first...
i will also get him a collar as well so people know hes a pet.

i have been reading online its better to neuter a cat later on so it completely fills out and doesn't retain a juvenile look due to lack of hormones. i seen pictures of cats that were neutered too young vs ones later on...

he has his claws btw.

i live in a suburban neighborhood. its like a half acre of property. two of my neighbors let their cats free roam too.

there are also alot of skunks and opossums here and raccoons as well lol.

i read online that all of these animals usually interact well with cats. they all just stay out of each others way.

i have been taking him out on a harness now for about 2 months getting him acquainted with the yard. hes very comfortable now...and knows to run to the porch when hes scared .

the other thing i worry about is him taking native birds. he can kill all the pigeons, sparrows, and starlings he wants since they are invasive...

and will he get into nasty fights with the other cats?

ugh so much to consider. i will tell you this much...hes not happy being in the house all of the time.:chillpill:

well then let him out...hes a cat all our cats are outside most the time...

have you had any problems in terms of not seeing them for a few days? fights? do they kill alot?

Indoor cats generally have a longer life span. When your cat is an indoor cat, you don't have to worry about them getting run over, or getting infections from fighting, or picking up diseases from other cats.

Our persian cat has aspirations of being an outside alley cat, but she doesn't get her way. The only time she is on a leash is when we take her agate hunting at the beach.

Take your cat places with you. Ours is a well traveled cat, who takes things into stride. She's outside a lot in the summer, when she's on the water. We don't have to worry about cat fights there or about her taking off and getting lost:)

Too man douche bags like this on earth.. www.tylerweinman.com so our cats only go out while supervised on the patio. One likes walks so he get's the leash.

Hmm. I don't think the term "douche" really describes that POS:irked:

I tried leash training my cat once. It involved putting the leash (it's a choker string, for a small dog) on her and taking her on the porch. She HATED it.

we always let ours out, thats the joy of cats, so independant.
over here i think our main threats r roads and foxes and thats just a risk u take.

although im looking at a maine coon in a few years and not sure what the situation is with them, i could imagine people would mess themselves if that jumped over their fence lol but at the same time id feel wrong just having them inside or in a run.

i didnt see that. tbh i think teenage boys get a bit bored and pick on cats as they r an easy target, i used to know someone that set them on fire for a laugh...needless to say not friends anymore :irked: vile.

but tbh this can happen to a human inside the house or out.
