I am using 100 micron felt and polycarbonate filters - I have read that some MFKers wash and re-use their sock filters. Any thoughts/experience with this?

I personally don't have or use sock filters, but jave read threads where members actually tossed them in the washer and used bleach.

i'm using filter socks and i do wash them.. i store the dirty socks in a bucket till i have about 12-16 socks and then i would bleach them for 2-3 days than each day i would change fresh water for 3-4 days.. last i would would empty wash my wash machine for a short cycle and fill the WM with the socks and set it to heavy duty wash with longest cycle i can.. when socks all washed i would than use the same short cycle to rewash the WM.. the socks would be in my boiler room if winter or sun dried in the yard in summer time or air dried.. I do use a sharpie to write the date i have used that sock to keep record and about 2-3 washes i through the sock out..

I accumulate until I have about 6 or more then wash them with a hose to get the big waste out then just stick them in the washer with no soap and high heat. hang to dry. put your tablet in and clean the washer with no cloths in it and don't tell the wife.

all is well.

Same as others have said. I save up a bunch and run them in the washer with bleach on the hottest longest setting. I let them soak in tap with a bit of dechlorinater for 24 hours, use them when they are completely dry.

I collect dirty socks, soak them in bleach for a few days, blast them with a jet nozzle until they're sparkly white, then soak in a bucket with water and heavy prime before finally setting them out to dry and reuse. They're $4-5ea that would be a costly addition to my already expensive maintenance and feeding regiment.

i use one sock for my 240g. i hose down all the debris and soak it in bleach for a day or two before rinsing off the bleach with water. i do it twice a week and the same two socks stilll going strong for 5 months+. i dont think these will wear down in a year or two though.

Sorry, I'm considering going the Sock Filter option and just wondering if I understood you properly. You say you have to change your sock out twice a week??
