Do you wash your hands?

Do you wash your hands before and after doing work in your tanks??

I remember a previous thread about diseases and maladies that can be contracted
by doing work in the aquarium and i just want to see how the members take this.

i wash my hands all the time.......PERIOD!!!

You always should wash your hands, you come in contact with soaps, cleaners, all sorts of things that can poison fish. I don't wash my hands when I use the restroom however. If there is a splash, I just wipe it on the door knob.

I always wash when dealing with the freshwater tank, but when its with the saltwater tank, I am always doing everything whenever for that tank, so anything goes

I will always wash my hand before and after....

However, there was one time when I was reprimanded by a lfs owner for putting my hand into a tank for selection of plants in pots... (din know plants will be affected too....)

antibacterial soap before and after also use pro tools for work in the tank if i have to put my mitts in i use arm length chemical gloves i know next i'll want to build a spruce goose but hey bacteria can do some nasty damage you should see me at the hospital scrub on the way in and on the way out .....

Joel posted a good point, As much as you dont want to get anything from your tank , you dont want to contaminate your tank with chemicals, dirt , or soap traces before you put your hand in either.


I am anal about washing my hands before i put it in the tank more than washing my hands afterwards. but ive had rashes before so i really make try to do my best to wash before and after.
