Do your fish like to redecorate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Some of mine don't like me poking around in the tank either, substrate cleaning and such, but they enjoy the fresh water. It makes me like doing their water changes.
Let me tell you. I love oscars. So much personality and different personalities. I like the comment in another post by cigars. He keeps oscars with his other big fish to sort of keep order in the tank. At least that's what I got from it.
As you say they love the clean water. They super love food. At least mine do. Only about 7 months old give or take.
And no grudges with these fish. Squabble here and there. Defend themselves from pbass sometimes but otherwise just happy fish.

So my Casper just 7in now don't yet have the size to move stuff about.....
But he is a professional sand excavator. I fill them in every water change. He starts the new one during water changes.....

His newest one

His most colossal digging effort. He cleared out 3ft of sand for a massive fry pit!
Gosh he sure is a beauty!

Sorry about the delay in my response--I had an incoming call. I don't have Oscars but I have several friends that do and I totally agree they have personalities as varied within a species and subspecies as humans, dogs, cats and othe animals.
I have Senegals, Cichlids and other fish. I note that there are diverse personalities within many species.

If you haven't already, and are inclined, you might check out Finwin's thread: More Tank Pics, Update. Therein are pictures and commentary of the ongoing antics and interchanges between her star Oscar Brick, Blood Parrot Boss, Severum-Chip and Synodontis cat-Rex. Get out the popcorn and beer, pardon me Countessa Finwin, in her case, ring the maid for the caviar and vintage wine in Waterford crystal goblets.

I like to give my guys a varied diet too. They seem to relish it as I like a somewhat varied diet too. I think it is for good for them as well.

10-4. Jus cuz I like oscars doesn't mean I don't like other fish. One reason I like to browse MFK. Like to enjoy what other people do. Not just my thing. I'm also an SA biotope kind of keeper. Small dwelling though, so some envy with people who have real big tanks.

I very much like MFK too for that reason and others. I have a variety of species of fish including some dwarves. I have a large tank then a few tanks going down in size to micro tanks, but I try to create micro cosm with ridges and tunnels, forests, and open space beaches. Not exactly a biotope, but close approximation to a natural habitat. My present older device doesn't align with the this site's format, but I am getting a new device soon. Then I will be able to occasionally share a picture or two like others.
I try to make my tanks my tanks fun for my fish (and me) or at least homey. I can tell my fish are happy or busy or both.

I had look up SA. I knew what biotope was and that sounds very interesting.

Thats cool. I have a 200gal hopefully arriving shortly. Am going to try that "open" effect at one side of the tank. More of a river entrance than a beach. Yes I can tell when my fish are happy also. Right now 2 unhappy fish. Need the new tank bad. Will definitely post picks.
Enjoy your tanks!

The other thing I was going to add, on MFK you can find other Keepers with same species, to share stories and information, but also like you said look in and learn about species other than your own. Or just have some fun on a thread like this. (Thank you Lady Countessa Finwin.) And make friends that have a interesting shared interest.

I have beaches going into (nicely) convoluted 'busy' areas where there is secluded places. All these in various in various configurations.
Wow new tank, new toy--great fun. Look forward to pictures. My latest upgrade is only a few months old but the plants (transplant offshoots from my other tanks) the plants have spread. My Senegals like to use the plants like hammocks.

Look forward to picks, it was good talking to you.

Yep. There is a big poly crowd. I think they are interesting but still warming up to them (polys). And you have the aro crowd. I like aros but no room.
Then the ray keepers. Really admire them. These things get pricey! And it goes on and on. Great stuff. Lots of good people.

Re-decorator Level 10...granted he has less materials to work with being in a bare bottom tank, but he makes the most of it, in fact he's a bit of an aquatic artist...

Is that just a cool name or a GOT reference?
