Do your fish like to redecorate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are both the same tank, just different angles, lighting. Its Caribsea Tahitian moon that is no longer available save a few here and there on Ebay what have you. I wanted more and went looking ending up messaging the company and getting a reply. Where they were getting the sand dried up basically. So until they can find a new source..

Well, that's too bad, but on it's way. Really nice sand. I have CaribSea Torpedo Beach. Great sand. Almost luminous, in some light. Stays clean. Doesn't dinge out. It is amazing really. When you vacuum it enters the chamber but not the tube. It has the perfect heft. Well you know if your CaribSea is tg

The Tahitian moon is the same way, just enough weight to swirl around in the gravel vac, but not get sucked down the hose. I like it cause it's not totally solid black. There are some browns, and shimmer, shiney ones as well. 15564809047379202413486008523932.jpg

So the black is not over powering blackness, the browns also help hide the detritus in plain sight, if you get what I mean. Like the little Spanner barbs poo, when it hits the bottom it just disappears as compared to fish poo on white sand

Not saying all of this is poo, but you get the idea.

Jexnell Jexnell , is that a black/white sand mix? Nice texture against Jasper!

Just saw your info on the sand...so that black tahitian isn't solid black, good deal.

the same. It circulates in the chamber then drops. Sorry about that oops. I am looking over a getting a different device. It will be able to post pics. I have half sand ½ gravel in 2 tanks and the fish leave the border intact. One of the tanks pics were posted for me on the Sand or Not To. I have since upgraded another tank and did CaribSea in that.

With my Horseman Cories, they like sand so I went with Sandtastik Green. FINWIN FINWIN recommends the floral sand, as does the company for Aquarium purposes. It is heavier. The regular is finer, still cleans well but have to work it to get the bubbles out. The finer is better for Horseman Cats.

Good to speak with you Jexnell. It has been awhile. I think Casper was being especially spunky at that time.

That's Casper for you, he's definitely is a glass banger. Any time I move at all he swims up to see what's up. I think he thinks my whole bedroom is his territory. Its hilarious he gill flares and get all bitey everytime I bring my own food in... like I don't get to eat, just him. We play get the fingers game alot, where he follows my fingers around trying to bite them thru the glass, from end to end of the tank, hes soo fast, swims end to end in what seems like 1 second flat.

Hahaha, about the racing part I mean. I am sorry about your fingers. Occupational hazard when you have an especially eager, affectionate fish. Just giving you some love, HUH?
Are training him for the Fish Olympics? We used race frogs. Cichlids can be trained you all know that Lady Finwin is doing amazing with her O.

I get the picture about waste on white sand. (Nice pictures by the way, all of them.Very clear.) The Torpedo Beach doesn't show the p**p or detritus either. (I said a dirty word, shame--sorry)
Hi Finwin, gosh it has been so long. missed you! :). Always good to talk to you. I didn't know you were onboard or coming on board, or I would would have let you talk about the Sandtastik Sand. thought it was black too. Either way looks good. That is why I said the Torpedo Beach is amazing. It has retained it's original appearance and has toned down highlights.

CaribSea Torpedo Beach doesn't get REDECORATED. At least mine doesnt. It gets rooted around it. Could be the fish. But I have Albino Cories and a Gold Lab Cichlid in one tank with T. Beach Sand. And Bichirs and Yo-yo loaches in the other T.Beach Sand tank. All are somewhat Construction Workers that like to redecorate, nest, or forage. The granules are about the size of rice grains. About half or less the length for an easy instant mental comparison.

My other Golden Lab Cichlid has finer aquarium sand. I don't remember the brand it's been there a long time. He is the major artist that keeps innovating the artwork with drifts with a little blue gravel mixed in. Very cool. I have a bag of Torpedo Beach next to his tank to ''redecorate', but I haven't had the heart to do it. The Torpedo Beach has all smooth edges. The Sandtastik Sand is good that way and researched by the Duke University to be safe too. It is made of Feldspar stone, with natural spark highlights I think in most colors.
As far as the Sandtastik Sand being shifted around. Depends who is doing what.

Your fish is a sharp Case Loader with a full size bucket, and a worker too. Helps you with the cleaning. I have one that helps like that.
