Please do me a favor and keep it to the topic, MPG and long run cost is my main thing. I like the look of the Dodge the best but seems the GMC and Chevy get the better MPG.

I need 4x4, ext cab, no lift, just the 5.3 and or whatever I forget the Dodge litter but you know.

Looking into 2005 ish.

Love all of them but the dodge the most, however MPG is very important and think I might have to go Chevy or GMC, any real owners around?

Im well aware of diesel and all the other ways this could go, just tryin to cut through the shrubs to the point here, thanks bros.

Oh and not towing big crazy stuff either , just good old town and highway. Towing now and then.

My dad has a 2011 Sierra 1500 w/ the 5.3 and my friend has a 2008. I'll have to ask them what MPG they get. I don't really love the styling, but I do like it better than the brand new Dodges...the last body style wasn't bad, but if you like it who cares what I think. For some reason, I love how the Yukon and other full-size SUV's look, but the Sierra is just okay...better than the Silverado, though. I don't know much about the newer Dodge engines, I'm just glad you're not looking into the Fords because their gas engines pretty much suck.

The only thing I know from friends doing offroad stuff with their daily driver is with Dodge trucks the shocks (not the springs) seem to wear out pretty quick compared to other brands. Of course in their head that's a reason to upgrade so...

Another friend has a Sierra and she loves that truck, only wishes she had gone to the full sized rear cab. She bought that truck because she doesn't like working on them at home after working on them at work. She also notes that parts are easy to find and not high dollar... she has a 2009.

Silverado seem to handle better than some other trucks, but the last time I drove a Ram 1500 was in 2005 probably. That Ram was pretty nice on the inside but the average gas was 12mpg, 9mpg towing and 16 highway averaged out. We only towed a short time, I thought my 17 mpg was bad until I used that truck for a weekend. The Silverado is about 16 mpg until you get heavy on the pedal or tow. You may also want to check if the truck you want to buy can handle all that crappy gas like E10 and stuff. I know newer vehicles are being built to use it but I'd still look at that. I try to only use 100% gas in our vehicles, we get better mpg and it doesn't eat the fuel lines up like the E10 can. I was buying E10 when gas got high back in 2007 and there was a huge difference between the E10 and 100% gas, it cost me though, $120 for a fuel line after chewing through one on my Jeep. We also calculated that the 100% would have to be 30 cents higher or more than the E10 to make it worth using for the loss in mpg we have.

I work for a Dodge dealership and the 05 rams with the hemi didn't get the greatest milage probably around 12 city and 16 highway but are nice riding trucks. The newer rams are around 14 city and 18 highway. I have driven several Chevys and fords as well but the ram rode the nicest and you know you have some power behind you when you put your foot down. If you want fuel milages check out fueleconomy.gov

If fuel economy is a big deal to you why not get a small fuel efficient car as well. That way you have a truck to use when you need a truck and a fuel efficient car when you need a daily driver. Cost less long term. I drive a smart car so not much help in the big trucks sense I sold my H2 awhile ago but my best friend has a ford Raptor. Bought it to use as his daily driver than got tired of paying for gas so bought a smart like mine and uses that as a daily driver than the truck when he needs or wants it. Overall he pays less for payment and insurance on the smart than he did for gas on his truck. Though he drove it quite abit. Other than that I have heard that the dodges are a very nice truck.

i have had a 1500 dodge ram new 4x's in the past 8 years....now i have a new 1500 chevy.... the dodge was a great truck.. we went to the chevy because the dealer of the dodge was a jerk... even after we bought 4 new trucks from him.. gave us the lowest trade in on our 2005 dodge..etc..the chevy dealer gave us deals all around.. . so after buying the new chevy.. i compare the differences on a steady basis... the dodge is more trucky... bigger too.. the chevy is a great truck but when your inside it drives more like a car..lower to ground.. the dodge is much higher.. when we called our insurance company to insure the chevy our insurance actually went down from the 2005 dodge.. we asked why.. and she said there are so many safety features in the chevy.. airbags even on the roof.. and alot of other thing.s..so we have been very happy with our off road chevy truck..like a rock!! And mileage is definitly better then the dodge.. not by a whole lot.. but it is better..and one more big thing.. the dodge 4 wheel drive was always good on snow and ice but still seemed slippery at times.. the chevy has never skidded ..and it does everything
totally automatic.. {maybe the dodge does this now.}{i would check on this} but chevy is definitly safer in snow and ice then our 2005 dodge..everything is done for you..so just check out the 2005 chevy and see how much they had to offer in these areas compared to the dodge of the same year.. bottom line .. they are both great trucks..
