Thats whats this hobby is all about...

 Thanks bro.....I know you are the man...You are spot on with everything you said :)

RD's certainly aren't piscivores..... They are invert feeders for the most part. Yes, they make take the odd small fish or fry in the wild, but they are not evolved to feed upon fish in any significant amount.

So, the answer is........... because the RD doesn't see the fish as food!

They are omnivores.....Explain the "lack" of evolution please....

Everything is an omnivore to a greater or lesser degree, but take a shark and a pleco............ somewhere in between is where RD's evolved their feeding strategy. Their lips are specifically evolved to be used as gaskets as they such prey, usually invertebrates (more specifically, usually snails) out of crevices. They certainly take some degree of food from detritus (including some plant matter), and from time to time will feed on eggs and fry if they are available and unprotected, but their target prey group is generally inverts. RD's don't have the mouth or body of a piscivore.

i find that ghost shrimp rarely caused any problem if any at all, when i feed them, some tank raised guppies would be another good choice

any fish will eat any fish out of desperation. whether or not they should or are supposed to is an entirely different matter...

IF BAD GRAMMER AFENDS YOU DONT READ!

The reason people dont recomend the feeders is ich and stuff. breeding your own fry for fish food is a good way of preventing unwanted desease. Rd and Midas are omnivores. In the wild they love snails insects. smallfish what ever swings there way when they are hungry . if it fits in there mouth they will eat it. ive had dozens of them bred them for two years.
They do suck up snails not mainly for removeing from crevice but they hold the snail in there mouth and bash it on rocks to break the shell and get to the insides. I was never able to keep snails in my tank with my midas. Sry bout my grammer i no it sucks

Your grammar is fine...I can read it :)

My RD is two years old and will only eat guppies live. No goldfish in his tank. He also likes nightcrawlers, pellets, sticks, frozen square things. He has good growth and beautiful color. I still do not know what size he will be (approximately) when full grown. Opinions and fact seem to intertwine when it comes to RD size. Anyways, I agree that if you are going to give your fish feeders, you (or a friend) should breed them.
