does an oscars tail grow back?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Poor thing! Make sure you take some sort of preventative measure against infection such like salt, melafix, stress coat, etc...

Good thing it's an oscar, most fish would not survive that sort of stress. If your FH and oscar can see each other through that divider, that is probably a huge source of stress for the little guy too. I would block its view or move it to another tank.

Good luck with the fin growth.

if I had to place a bet today, I would say that tail isn't coming back, but I wouldn't give up on it . . . good luck!

yeah looks like its close, it may not grow back but give a week or two to see and then you will be able to tell if new tissue is forming or if it is just healing over, make sure to keep the water super clean and add some salt or something to prevent bacterial infection and yeah they are in the 150 right now, then i would wait until he heals a bit before adding another oscar. and just do one more, tank is not big enough for more than 2 Os IMO, and most likely the FH will have to go, as it will most likely kill them even when they are larger Os are not near the aggression level of a flowerhorn

i will post a better pic now, i think it has a chance, and it is eating like crazy! lol

the flowerhorn is in the 30gal (as a punishment) and he as the whole 150g to himself lol

oh yeah there is a common plec in there, shouldnt matter, he swims like normal anyway :)

thanks for the support and information guys!

This is no time to be touching that fish. What are you doing? It needs a calm tank with dim lighting and no sudden movements.

That's not looking good at all - granted the pics are dark - best of luck with that. Either it's gonna grow back or a white cotton lookin' fungus will start growing around the wound at which point thats all she wrote.
