That poor mono! He is on his death bed......I have both kinds of monos, and they are very cool fish! But as mentioned above, they do need to be in a full brackish set up....

SHOOT THAT LFS OWNER!!! What an idiot!

Jen ;)

Actually Monosabes are not brackish to start with they start off in fresh but as they get older they go from fresh to marine/brackish water. With the shape that one is in I would suspect that the one shown there is in dire need of some salt.

Hello, folks! My wife and I went to a LFS today looking for some aggressive fish for our aquariums. Well, the guy had a Monodactylus sebae in a tank by its self. He said that it was a mono and was traded in because it was beating up everything in a tank. I bought it thinking that it is a pretty fish. Well, as I am doing some research on this forum, it looks to me like he should be in a brackish/saltwater tank. What should I do? I dont have a SW setup at this time.

I don't understand your question. You already know what needs to be done. Monodactylus sebae is a shoaling, hard-water, alkaline, brackish species. Anything other than those basic parameters is only going to be hard on the sebae. If you can't provide them, turn the fish over to someone that can manage these basics.
BTW, that darkening in the pic is indicative of a mono either highly stressed or sick.
