Does anybody know how to sex bagroides melapterus? Is it like black lancer? Want to get 1 male 4 female anybody have advice? I've had one in the past kept about a year then sold. Wished I never had now I have the chance to get 5!!!!

Dr. Ng answered the question here (for future reference http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=289750#p289750 ) but I wanted to ask: where are you getting 6 of these and for how much? No need to answer. Just that recently I saw them offered for the first time at $175 and was so tempted but could not afford at the moment.

Ya I remembered how to sex bagrids been a while anD thats my post on pc. They are on hold right now but I paid $300 shipped. I'll pm you when I get them.

Wow, $50 a fish with shipping. That's 4x better than the one I saw.
I've been looking to get a good deal for quite awhile on a group of these finally somebody i know got some in :). My wife said no to a dozen somehow i talked her into six. I'm still thinking 5 female to 1 male, based on all I've read about bagrids. Anybody ever try a black lancer group?

You'd be the only one I know of with a group. I read they don't take it kindly to one another but as often is a larger group might work out ok.

I've only had a black lancer and only once. It ate itself to death literally. I'd not house them with say cyprinids that are fed a little but often, ~5-10x a day. My lancer took advantage of that to its own demise.

Nice pick ups. Hope to see them more out!

A contender for the prettiest catfish IMHO.

I have been looking but never saw them for sale for 7+ years. Now, all of a sudden a few places have been selling them $50-$70 (2"-3") and one place a ~6" fish at $175.

I got my first Harlequin from Sam Lai (fishonlinerus) 1-2 weeks ago. Very pretty, even w/o one pec fin. Has been an easy fish to take care of so far. Like the Black, it is a foodie. Started feeding within hours of arrival. Appears pretty hardy, although Sam complained of it being sensitive to water temp, hardness.

I am to receive 2 more Harlequins (plus 3 Black lancers) from Wet Spot this week.
