Sometimes I get tired of searching the internet for everything. Does anybody have any suggestions on the best books to read for this hobby? Not necessarily on running a successful aquarium, but more along the lines of information on the actual fish that we keep and the history of them, and the locations where they’re found in the wild. Specifically central and South American cichlids. What are the staples that everybody should have, or at least read?

Except reading to my kids. Haven’t read a good book in a while.

Most of the aquarium books I see are very basic or completely out of date. If you are sick of the Internet maybe try some of the monthly magazines like practical Fishkeeping or tropical fish hobbyist. I get these occasionally if there is a storyI am interested in, at least they are current with their information and news.

Fish books have gone out of favor. Much of the information is outdated. However, much of the information on the internet is wrong. Anyone can post on the internet. Not everyone can write a book. Cichlid profiles on Cichlid Forum has reliable info on most species of cichlids.

Must resub to Amazonas, an amazing publication made in Germany.
