I recently started doing this because my bichir is now big enough (6.5 inches senegal ) And because the giant danio's swimming above him never got him the fare share of food. they cant even try to eat the half silver sides I throw in there and the Bichir seems to really like eating them. How are they nutrition wise ? Is it an Ok food staple ?? Thanks in advance guys!

I fed them as a treat for as long as one package lasted me.

I chopped them up since I was always worried about the smaller guys choking, and the smell sticking to my hands got to me.

Here, the price wasn't low enough to make them a staple, so I kept mine on a pellet staple, with occasional market shrimp and earthworms.

I see. I got a big block of it for ten bucks. I Know its healthier than most live freshwater fish (IE goldfish guppies) It has less bones and is easier to digest and I do believe they have more protein. Im just curious if it would be a good staple because he eats half of one at a time and its far less messy than squirting a bunch of bloodworms on him I always end up vacuuming up some of those as my gravel is semi big.

Nice lol Thanks guys. And yeah mine enjoyed three zebra danio's my mom put in there(big ones too) and a small giant danio. I just kind of cracked up. These giant danio's he is with now are about 5 inches and always moving there is a very small chance he might try to eat one but I doubt it they have plenty of space and hideways and plants. He's well fed. Im gonna try the reccomended market shrim and worms too, thanks for the advice.

Yeah they will be fine if you have that much, but it's always a good idea to add a pellet food to their diet to make sure they are getting all the vitamins and minerals they need.

I give mine silversides, well in the uk it's white bait and they're only about 2"-3" in length. I also feed the sevs cichlid excel and bio gold and the polys will come up and eat them aswell. I also feed prawns, monk fish, haddock, pollok cat fish pellets, massivore and muscles. But the white bait is probably fed more than the others as i can get it dirt cheap from a wholesaler. You should look for wholesalers and get food from them. In the lfs it's £3 for 100gms of white bait and at the whole saler it's £6 per kilo, not bad if you ask me...

I give mine silversides but I use smelt also from the store. they love it and it is much cheaper and you get a lot ,cut it up though and lance fish from prosalt is good but pricy you get a lot and they are and long softer my Poly,s love it because the oder is strong and they find it fast. all these are good for Bichirs I feed this plus Krill and clams to mine with some Harkari Carnivore pellets grund up and then I stuff it in the fish and clams.

With all this talk about feeding, I realized I haven't watched a good bichir feeding video in a while...

Who wants to upload one :D
