i have one that looks new but i dont know if i have everything i need. all i have is the filter, intake tube, the hob box and a basket in the media part. the basket has to sponges in it that are fitted to the filter so i know they are for it. but nothing on top of the sponges. there is likr 4 inch by 3 inch box of space there. is there filter pads for it or? i dont even know if the filter is worth investing money into are they good? i figured if anyone could help it would be you guys. thanks a lot.

Aquaclear HOB's are great! The best HOB filter out there IMO. The extra space is used for more filter media if you so choose. You can either add more sponges, bio media or chemical filtration such as charcoal. Look at some online retail sites and search for media under the name "Aquaclear 70", formerly known as the Aquaclear 300. The media is pretty cheap!

thanks for the info. the only thing i knew about it was that it was a little bulky. do i leave the sponges on bottom then put the media on top of them? i was thinking those bio balls but i think they float and would probably fall out.

see.... you guys are awesome. answer for everything! lol thanks for the info. hell it will save me 40 bucks next time i set up a tank on impulse. its how i ended up with 10 of them in my front room. but great info and advice. thanks for the link as well.

What you have is the AquaClear 101.........Ah yes, the good ole days how they were originaly labeled.........The AC300 is now known as the AC101.........The compartment that is 3x4 inches is not to be filled.......AC's are best known for hteir mechanical filtration.......That being noted, fill the box with 2 sponges and top it off with a bag of charcoal.....Change the charcoal at the end of every month,...........
