Does anyone have an aquarium on wood floors?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
like was said if the legs are not small knobs or a metal stand it should be fine if your worried get furniture pads and put on the legs or if its a huge tank make the surface area larger with a piece of wood under the legs and use the pads on it

I've read that with the floating style engineered floors, having a tank on them won't allow them to float properly and could lead to buckling or gapping since the area under the tank might not be allowed to float as it should. That was the reason behind why I put a tile pad down, we were planning on using a floating floor but ended up using a nail-down type instead. Either way the tile should hold up to the abuse better than wood, esp since its a SW tank.

as long as there is expansion gaps left around the edge of the wall and the subfloor is level floating floors are fine we put heavy furniture on them all the time dosent make a difference

I've had no issues with my wood floor except i left the top open and one of my flowerhorns decided to jump out when i got home from work he was stuck to the floor

Is there some sort of waterproof mat that can be placed underneath the stand to protect the wood floor from any spills that may occur?

An aquarium shop just opened by my house and the whole place is wood flooring.
I remember thinking, "WTF?...."
