I would like to get a Green Tree Pyton sometime before the end of the summer and make a nice vivarium with Dart Frogs, the GTP, and maybe some Hatchets/Tetras in a pool at the bottom of the tank. What cage size does a GTP need alone? I would like to attempt to tame the "beast";) but I know that they're not known to tame down often, but I'd like to at least attempt it. Any info that you feel relevent would help me alot. Thanks for your help

Alone, you can keep an adult GTP in a two-foot cube. They're not very large snakes, up to about six feet for females I think. But since they're slender and very inactive, they don't need much space. Temps range between mid-80s to low-90s; humidity needs to be high but you also need enough ventilation to let the cage dry out every few days so fungus etc don't start taking over. GTPs don't drink out of bowls so you need to spray the leaves, sides of the cage, maybe even the snake itself.

I personally haven't had one, but I've also been looking into it, and that's some of the basic stuff I found out. There's a forum devoted to Morelia species, http://www.moreliapythons.com, where you can get some really good information from breeders.

good luck!

Yeah, another thing I know about them is that they do not eat much. You can't powerfeed these guys like a Burm or a red-tail. They're like supermodels; they will regurgitate if you feed them too much or too often. One adult GTP would probably do fine eating one full-grown mouse every 2-3 weeks.

I wouldn't keep them with dart frogs...

having the fish in there are cool too, but to be honest, a lot of the time simplicity is the key, just having some newspaper or something as substrate. If you had to do it though, make sure your python has a way out of the water. I take it you've kept snakes before. I can't wait to get a couple of pairs but unfortunately now isn't the right time for me.

Theres a whole lot of info on the captive husbandry of these guys, as they are very very popular arboreals. Try looking at the links http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=green+tree+python+care&meta= a lot of people have slightly different techniques etc, and some may work for you some might not.
Also i could recommend buying the complete chondro (i think theres a more uptodate version cleverly entitled "the more complete chondro". Worth a read and interesting to learn the "designer morphs" etc aswell as the different locales. Good luck.

Umm I have some experience in snake care with some corns and a mex mex kingsnake. Thanks for the links I appreciate it. I was in a rush to make it to my families for easter and didn't have alot of time to look it up. I know it may be tough but I plan on getting one in the beginning of June so as to allow myself to become accustomed to its specific needs, and I plan to set up a cage a week prior to the purchase to allow me to nail the correct temperature and humidity gradients. I would really like to keep them with some dart frogs because I feel that the GTP wont bother them because of their small size, and I would provide numerous hiding spots. I'm not sure about having the fish in there though. It would be nice, but I don't really know how I would get the tank to hold water especially if it's a vision cage. Another thing I'm planning on doing is attempting to create a tolerance with the snake and me holding it. I know that they're no cornsnake, but it would be cool to have. Thanks for all of your help

If I remember correctly there main source of food are birds so they maybe hard to get them to eat mice . A friend of mine outsmarted his though buy soaking it in chicken broth. I thought it was a real pain, I'd make sure you ask who ever you buy it from if it's been eating mice or even have them feed it in front of you. good luck

Plenty of GTPs will eat rodents, especially CB ones. Although some people will feed them chicks anyway. And many that are stubborn can be turned onto rodents by scenting them a couple of times first. I wouldn't mix darts and a GTP specifically because GTPs are from an entirely different continent, I'd just set up two vivs. Were you going to do thumbnail darts or larger dendros? Just wondering is there a reason for keeping a GTP over a ETB?
