(Arius seemanni) I keep getting mixed info. Can they go in a planted tank and how big do they actually get, Are they suitable for a 55. I only want like 3. If they require some salt will that be bad for the plants in the tank

Heres all the info i could scrape up. if i am correct they are also called ariopsis seemani. one book says they grow to 18 inches and that it is cruel to put them in anything smaller than a 1125 gallon tank
another good book says that they need brackish water another book says that they dont grow larger than 20 cm (8 inches) in the aquarium. if you want more details pm me.

Should be kept in brackish as it matures or is susceptible to skin diseases. Fairly active swimmer and can fit large items into its mouth.
They also like to school. I believe that 1st response should have been 125g but bigger would be better for a school of them--very impressive!
Lets see some pics of these big blackfin sharks....I had one long time ago, he was like 5 inchs, he beat the snot out of a 10 inch sevrum.....just kept beating on him and them cleaned of an entire side of his scales.....he was white on one side and when I opicked him up, all his normal colors were still their on the other side....they can be ruthless...
