You can build a false wall and hide the heater and pump behind there or get a heater cage/guard so they don’t burn themselves.

What about an under tank heat pad like what’s used for reptiles or even a basking dome?
Good question but I never tried it. That’s a great idea and you could hook it up to a thermostat. I imagine it would work.
Ya, I was thinking of something hooked up to a thermostat. I imagine they’re similar to keeping amphibians or semi aquatic reptiles which I’ve done and do

I've been looking around and found one vendor that has some.I've never heard of them before though.
Got suckered into getting one. Kept Indian mudskippers in a group which constantly fought, then later I purchased an Atlantic (Periophthalmus barbarus) one that was very tame. I really didn’t plan on another, but when my local fish guy showed me the biggest mudskipper I’ve ever seen (7ish inches), I really couldn’t turn it down. I bought it right out of the shipping box…
The last African skipper I had, which was about 5 inches, just sat on a Coronado raft I. The middle of the tank and never moved u less startled or to eat. It was in a 40 gal hex but seemed fine with the smallish space. Not sure how I’m gonna set this one up yet. The imitation beach setup proved a pain to keep clean.
