does anyone keep womas? if so whats the deal with them?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Part of the major price shift is that more and more people have figured out how to incubate the eggs of womas and black-heads. If anyone else has ever bred them you will appreciate this...their eggs are just wierd! Incubating Aspidites eggs is tricky to say the least, they are fantastic animals though (among the nosiest snake I have ever messed with) and have a lot of 'personality'. 250 for one is just a little below average but if you are interested I'd say go for it, they are rewarding captives and as far as pythons go, womas don't really tend to get huge.

Woma Eggs are no different than any other Python Egg when it comes to incubation........Matter of fact, I found Womas to be incredibly easy to get to breed and produce......

Most people I have talked to about them have problems with moisture droplets damaging the eggs. I have incubated both womas and blackhead eggs and found the womas to be much less sensitive to it, but any water droplets on either have always pretty much meant a dead egg in my 'bator. Eric, did you have the same issue? I prefer incubating in a perlite/vermiculite mixture with the eggs actually in the media, but found that aspidites have major problems with that and I had to actually elevate them over it and still watch for moisture on the sides and top of the incubation container.

I used the same variation of no-substrate Incubation that I use for all my Eggs, and they did just fine..........100% humidity, but the only time the Eggs started sweating was a few days before they pipped........

I just googled some images of the snake in question so I had an idea what you guys were referring to....what an incredible python. Gorgeous colors and pattern. I can see why there was a demand for this snake. I have never seen one of those in person, but sure would love to.
agreed!

i was looking at several womas at the narbc show last week. most people were selling them for $200. i have to say i was rather tempted to pick up a couple. they are beautiful snakes.

ya i might get 1 just for the hell of it, what size tank do they need, and should i try one of the other smallish pythons first? like a childrens? thnx

They're really easy to breed. They are an Aussie and so were really hard to get into the US hobby. That made their prices high. Now that there are so many the supply has exceeded the demand and so there was a crash in the price.

Happens all the time, you'll notice it more and more... especially when you buy an expensive species for breeding and by your first clutch their value has plummeted.
