Does anyone know what type of catfish this is?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Firewood catfish aka Sorubimichthys planiceps. If left in there for a little longer, it will have eaten almost all those tank mates.

The one sitting in the middle is Brachyplatystoma vaillantii aka Luolao catfish.

Seriously awesome tank.

There are also vulture catfish, Jau catfish, Leiarius pictus catfish

I think that's a Pinirampus pinirampu, not vulture

The L.pictus is now fully grown and will land in my tank within a month

Absolutely awesome tank and the fish are so vibrant and beautiful.

I am glad you will be getting that L. pictus. I have had a trio in 4500 gal for 3.5 years and love them.

A bit disappointed to see that the firewoods can't keep their snouts intact even in 5500 gal but this is not too unexpected. Still, I hoped they would.

I wish the owner joined MFK and shared their knowledge, experience, visuals, etc.

Yeah so am i. Im picking up the L. Pictus and two cichla temensis from this guy. Cant wait to pick this fish up.

Yeah its a shame they have bent snouts. He offered me to buy one about 80cm but they get to big for my tank wich is 244x110x60cm so the pictus is as big as i can have in it in catfish way imo.

Ill hear with him if hes on mfk or not. He is a big name in predatory fishes here in scandinavia.

This is 8'x close to 4'x2', 480 gal, and perhaps it could house an even bigger catfish that's sedentary and not long-barbelled but I agree it would be borderline (in)adequate.

With pictus and other Leiarius, you don't want them to be able to touch front and back wall with their super long maxillary barbels simultaneously. That will make them feel trapped and nervous and skittish and prone to darting and injuring themselves. But you likely know it already.
