You could get underwater cutting rods from BROCO
http://www.broco-rankin.com/broco/c_ultrathermiccuttingrods.cfm. We used them to cut up steal plates under water, requires oxygen to work properly. They will cut through everything so use with caution.

burning magnesium creates magnesium oxide. when magnesium is burned, its very bright. i just thought id do something exciting at the next family event.

and for anyone who wants to know why i want potassium chloride, its for another bright chemical reaction. if KClO3 is melted, and sugar is added in the convenient form of a gummi bear, smoke and lots of purple sparks will appear. very cool to watch.

i remember tying together a bunch or those ribbons and burning them...damn that was fun.
i was blinded for about half a minute.
