I currently have all CA/SA cichlids and most of their temp requirements range from 73-82. Now the room i hold my fish in stays a constant 74 degrees. I usually run my heaters at 76ish degrees. I was thinking about just turning the heaters down to 72 just encase the central air goes out. Anyone think that would be a bad idea?

personally i don't run a heater in my ca/sa tank until winter, my house stays at a nice 72 degrees and my tanks stay at a constant 76 and some around 74, i have full hoods on all my tanks and run moonlights at night, so the heat of the lights and moonlights keeps mine about right, in the winter i set the heaters at about 74, just incase the heat goes out.

Water without a heater will be at room temp, maybe a little warmer due to pumps and such...

If room temp is approx the temperature your looking for, then there is no reason to use a heater...

When I had my fishroom set up I didn't use any water heaters, I heated the room...

im the same i have SA cichlids and i do not heat any of my tanks,

altho i have spare heaters just incase :)

I havent run heaters in any of my tanks in years. They run pretty consistant at 78 degrees or so. A bit warmer in the summer.

I dont use a heater for my 50g. But then, it's summer all year round in Singapore.

my bother has his african cichlid at 62 haha. basically no heater haha. cause my house is like at 72 most of the time or im the summer it hoter
