hey i was looking through my second fav website (aqualandpetsplus.com) and they show a gold jackdempsey on their dempsey page. so does anyone own one of theese magnificant fish?

At an LFS I used to work at we had about 10 of them for almost 6 months because they never sold. Maybe when they get big they look nice but at 3" theyre butt ugly. Basically a JD the color of a chinese algea eater.

I had one that bred with a regular color jack. I only have one male left with the gold gene from that batch. If I could find a gold female I'd buy it in a second. I like the way they look.

I own 6 of these beauties. My camara skills are not that great, but here are some progression photos of my fish. I ended up with 5 males & 1 female. These fish are very difficult to take good photos of as they bleach out with flash or don't show up well without it. Their colors change tremendously with mood. Generally lots of pink/red & golded colors.

I saw a breeding pair at a breeders I visited. I thought they were rather dull to be honest. I'd far prefer a standard JD or EBJD

ya i just like the way jd's look mainly their face, they look shocked to me with the way the have their mouths half open and eyes all wide. i think i will quickly end up with 1 or 2 in my tank, how do sex a gold? do you use the fins? with the whole pointed=male blunt tips=female, or is that a myth? thnx

"gold" JD? or is that "luecistic" Jack Dempsey? Information I've come up with states they're as hardy as a regular JD, unlike the EBJD. That sounds to me that they're just missing their chromatophores.
And for some really strange reason all the ones I see on Aquabid are EB / Gold cross. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. You'll lose the genetics of both if you breed like that.

I just picked up a female gold JD from my lfs for $3 , I got her for my regular male JD, I was going to get him a regular female JD but to be honest they didn't look very good at all and then I seen her and thought that it would add some contrast and would look really good in the tank , I have her in a 55 with the male jd but I have a devider seperating them just cause there is about a 4 inch size difference the male is about 8.5 inches and shes a lil over 4 .
I have the tank set up with a good sized flat rock on her side just to see if they will breed , I wonder what their offspring will look like ?

I got some BGJD's on Aquabid and one of them is starting to turn pink. I was worried something was wrong with it - LOL! It has blue sparkles on it but is pale compared to some of the others. This batch (I got 5, around 1" now 1.5") are very variable - one is almost black most of the time, one frequently turns white and the others are all shades in between. They nearly died from a bad trip through the mail, and are just now starting to act normal - begging for food all the time! Come to think of it, there is very little blue on them...
