Does anyone own a Himalayan Mahseer????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just went googling around, something to share:-
I'm convinced that the Blue Mahseers are different from the Blue Kelah species. Pardon i use their suedo names as this is what they are known here locally.

Here are some pictures to show the difference:
FIRST - BLUE KELAH

NEXT BLUE MAHSEERS - This is next on my list
BlueMahseers (indicators).jpg

just a quicky as I am in the office - blue mahseer and blue kelah are the same fish - Tor dourensis -

I believe the fish above are the same fish species - completely different angle and environment - one is obviously in an aquarium and [photo taken wit flash - the other a dorsal view in a dark pond - in the bottom photo - the one from jp photos - the fish has an obvious lateral stripe - you can see it most clearly behind the operculum extending down the body - the stripe will have been washed out by the flash.

there appears to be an obvious size difference too between those two photos.

this is an interesting discussion - i'll respond more later.

Thanks Carl,

It's really interesting and i enjoyed learning more of these species.
The first pic is actually a more than 2 feet long specimen

The second pic seem like a smaller specimen. What intrues me is that if these two are the same specimen, than why isnt the smaller fish showing the black lateral line in a more obvious manner (since both are Tor Douronensis) i took all my photos with flash and the black line always show up clearly (assuming that the fella in my tank is Tor Douronensis as they look exactly like the first pic)?

The juveniles in the first pic all had very obvious, more obvious lateral lines as compared to adults (minus the deep turquois greenish blue scales)

Thanks

I saw them on a vendors list along with a picture of a full grown specimen. They look like carp but the shingle like scales are nice to look at.

I have got to get my taxonomic information updated. I haven't researched these guys in so long, I thought they were all still "Barbus Tor".
