Don't use the pads, chuck them...use ceramic noodles in all 3 baskets, it's the best solution I've fond...

yes i have that problem all the time., the polishing pads will almost stop the filter in the first chamber , did you notice that the first chamber is really the only pad that really gets badly dirty ?

Yes, the blue pads can clog easily. If you want a finer level of filtration than is provided by the white foam pads, purchase some thin stiff polyester pad material and cut six, approx. the same size as the foam pads. I buy the bagged material from Odyssea. Cut the pads the same length, but about 1/8" shorter than the foam pads. Place one behind each foam pad. These should last for a month or more.

yup mine always gets clogged aswell, best to just use more bio media in my opinion and use a small internal with filter wool in to polish the water.

ya I found that in the first week I had it so I just run prefilter in the top basket and biomax in the bottom two. No flow restrictions and a nice clear tank.

Those fine pads for the filter are crap!! Just get rid of 'em. I just filled the first basket with those green scratch pads and noodles or bio stars in the rest of the baskets.

yeah i agree. i have 2 fx5's and i stopped buying the white and blue pads because they clog in a few days and your waterflow drops horribly. i use ceramic rings, polyester quilt batting if i need to polish, and purigen in pantyhose.

If you have to use pads, place them in the bottom basket in FX5, then coarser material in the top 2,to trap the larger debris before it clogs the pad on the bottom..FX5 intake runs top to bottom opposite of most canisters such as the XP3 or 4... frankly pads are a waste of time with this filter...
