Yeah just needed to know this. the yellow tinge is really starting to piss me off.

Yes, but why not just take the wood out, boil it, do a water change, and be done with it.....

Yeah I was thinking about chucking it in the bath tub cause it definately wont fit in the pot. Smells cause its been soaking for like a month now and it still leaches into the water :irked:

Mine took about 4 months and a few boil sessions. I left 1 tank kind of dark though. I kind of like the dark tinge...

Yeah its not too bad I spose. Im gunna give it a crack to get it clear but. Considering I have a spare large powerhead to fill with carbon and a bathtub I can use.

And boiling is not exactly going to remove all tannins. It'll take a long time for it to stop.

Well in fairness I have boiled a couple of smaller pieces(dont tell the wife) and I found that boiling really really really does draw the tannins off. Changed the brown water 3 times in an hour untill the water was virtually(not completely though) clear. Hot water definatly draws out the tannins compaired to just soaking it in a bucket of cold water out in the back garden.

Carbon does not do anything. I heard people said they had success using Purigen to remove tanins. To completely remove the tanins I have heard you may need to boil the wood 3-5 hours. I couldn't find a pot big enough so I pour in boiling water and let it soak for a day and change out with new boiling water every 3hours. The tanins is still leaching out slowly but not enough to make my tank a dark yellow tinge.
