Does Eco-Complete and others Need replacing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ooo thats great, maybe i can get some florite over the eco-complete, hopefully it would be cheaper, i should go check up on the price for that. btw the adding of the florite and teh slight cloudyness even with the sponge it wouldnt bother the fish by anychance would it? like lets say a scaleless fish? =S

i didnt have a problem with my fish both when i switched to black florite and when i switched to pool filter sand and both of these made water very cloudy. a sponge filter and some water changes will help too.

and i read on a different forum if you tank is empty or almost and you have the substrate in the bottom you use an airline hose like a syphon from the clean water running into the tank and this will minimize amount of cloudyness. but this will take a long time on a large tank but it really does work well at not making a cloudy mess.(or atleast as much of one)

yeah i now have half a bag of florite in the tank, mostly concentrated in the area where i burried the plants under over it, arond the roots... and i scattered some in random areas also incase i decide to plant something there. Underneith the drift wood i placed some, not burried but just on top, u cant really see it, but im sure even though not burried it will still release some of itz nutrients in the water right? =D Yeah the water is cloudy but i rinsed it off in water in the tub before i put them in so itz not as cloudy. I saw the how dark the water got when i was rinsing it.. it was really dark. Good thing i rinsed it first =^_^= Ill go and find some prefilter floss, and place it in my filter to help absorb all that cloudlyness... water change will have to be on sat =/ Still along way. DAmn i never thought if look forward to water changing it so fast lol. Hopefully the plants will be happy and get the nutrients they need.

Personally, I prefer Eco-Complete to Fluorite. I don't like the color of Fluorite, and you don't have to wash Eco-Complete. Just dump and go. I have a planted tank where I used both, and I regret it now, as some of the Fluorite chips have worked their way up to the surface when I've been replanting plants.

If you're keeping heavy root-feeders, you should be using a root-feeder tablets to supplement anyway. If you're not keeping heavy root-feeders, it won't really matter what your substrate is.

ahh hmm i cant use both! =^__^= i have those root tabs as back up layign around somewhere. but yeah i got the florite, eco-complete is nice.. but it was kidan too expensive.. and the eco-complete was black and my substrate was brownish white.. so i used the brown florite to go with it and the colors match and blend fine. As for the mess i risned them off in a bucket just like rinsing rice lol.. then i pour out all that cloudy water which porably has aa certain amount of nutrients.. and then placed it in a zip lock bag.. the florite that is clear.. and then slowly and carefully place the ziplock bag with florite in teh bottome of the tank and began digging and burrying.. it did not get that cloudy at first but the more i slowly added to more cloudy it got.. but itz ok in about a few hours it went back to crystal clear =D

Im think im good for now.. well see how this works for the next month or so.

Many thanks for everybody's help and opinion =^___^=

If i remember correctly, eco complete doesn't need to be recharged.

You remember incorrectly. Eventually all fertilizing mediums need to be replaced.
