Feeling is an emotion. Fish do not have emotions, but they do have "reactions". Any sinew that twitches does not mean it has feeling, but a reflex.

That being so....I'm sure we'd all agree that they react to stimulus that would pain us. Maybe if they feel pain is moot even with the topic at hand.

Obviously if a fish stresses to the point of dying due to a stimulus it is not a good thing....pain or not.

well kurt colbain from nirvana said "its okay to eat fish because they dont have any feelings" but niether does he now. :woot:

i have seen fish sit on under a heater, and it burn through there skin wothout it moving away, makes you think?

A question that will always have disagreement.

I personally don't think they feel "pain" like humans do. They may feel a negative stimulus but that does not equal pain.

This debate gets all screwed up because people do not operationalize "pain" the same way. One person may think pain is a fish flashing its gill cover, another may think pain is twitching when you cut it in half. Scientists may operationalize pain as "including emotion".

I don't care if fish feel pain or not.

EITHER WAY IT DOES NOT GIVE YOU A LICENSE TO MISTREAT FISH
