Does It Matter To You???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What's truely ironic is that many of the "imported" items people buy, mostly food and beverages, are actually made in the U.S. and aren't nearly as good as the imported versions.

It matters to me for the simple reason that I have come to find with most purchases, saving a few bucks initially just means I will end up spending more in the long run when I have to replace it with another just like it or the "better" one I should have bought in the first place. A lot of things these days are designed to break down knowing you will make the same buying decisions, although it's tough to have choices on something like filters at times.

Oh and that being said, sometimes the most expensive is NOT NOT NOT the best quality. My BMW motorcycle has had like 4 mechanical problems in the year I've owned it. I know from motorcycle forums that Kawasaki/Suzuki versions that are similar are much more reliable despite being MUCH cheaper.. so take it all with a grain of salt.

Cheap doesn't always equal value, and Expensive doesn't always equal quality.

If there was an American made product that was up to my standards I'd buy it even if it costbup to 20% more. I always try to buy American made first but usually only have the option when it comes to work clothes, hand tools, and guns.

My current job is building a new BP refinery and to save money they tried to have it built in modules by cheaper labor in Texas and Brazil then pieced together up here. By the time the job is over its going to cost BP several hundred million extra from all the stuff we had to tear out and do currectly.

Made In The USA

See as pointed out earlier I grew up in a time when Toyota, Honda,Subaru, etc was just starting to show up in the US. There was a huge Tariff at that time just to unload them off the Boat. Where they good cars, Yes for the most part but they rusted like crazy for those of us unlucky enough to live where that was a problem. I had a early Toyota Sport and I loved that car (this was at a time when most cars here where 20 to 30 feet long). Point being I don't think there products are all bad. I think China has hurt itself by exporting so many sub quality products to the US. Then again the workers at that time probably made .50 cents a hour. In this case the list is long and in my mind It's just takes time to rebuild up the reputation again. Us older folks lived in a time where most things where made here. Allot of times it could be your neighbor that worked at that plant. Today allot of the big companies are not even owned by people here in the US.Is that good or bad.....well I don't deny that all countries have a right to have a economy where they have a decent lifestyle and we support this by the purchases we make in most cases we have no choice. But honestly folks if this means your husband, father, son, mother, etc are standing in the wellfare line because of it....isn't something gone wrong with the system? We as a country allow our major corporations to shut down plants at will and send them to god knows where stripping thousands of jobs and sit back and support tax breaks etc. for them.

So you say what does this have to do with filters....well there made somewhere....I read rumors even Eheim isn't realy German? So my point has been today most don't care where it comes from as your friend up the road is surviving off food stamps and the powers to be would like to strip that? Look at all the equipment you need for your aquarium its a luxuary to even own one these days. Look at how many of us can't afford it but do it anyway. And somewhere in another country you just bought someone a new car? I am getting old so it not me I worry about it's the little kid up the street I worry about. I would not want to be born again today. I moved to the middle of no where it dosn't save me maybe but it sure helps sometime to help you tune it all out!!! Sorry If I'm off subject but if you think it over it isn't?

I don't live life like that. I'll try and do my part and what happens...happens.I only have one life....and I'm not wasting it by dragging myself down by thinking of all of those things.

Also I buy whatever I can afford. I would like a FX5...but don't have 200 bucks to fork out.

I kinda figured "that" was the main issue driving your question. Thus, my Lg pic attempt at humor- if John Deere made filters I'd buy them ;-)
(I apologize if that seemed straight outta left field. maybe it could be deleted.?)
If U.S. economy driven values are a top priority, I think your safest & most efficient route would be learning how to make DIY sumps. That cuts way back on the dollar amount of products you need to purchase.
