I've heard this theory for many years... throughout many years of keeping Cichlids I've never found it to be true...
Right now I'm breeding a lot of fish, but not doing much with the offspring. 95+% pf them end up food for other fish, most of those are raised to the 1/2~2" before doing so... In other words I have a lot of fish that eat young Cichlids as feeders very regularly.
I've found this tends to make them more aggressive feeders... meaning that when food is put in the tank they aggressively dart to the surface to see if there is any live food... but after that moment they are just like normal...
