Have you ever done the experiment with Melifix? I feel the fish will heal anyway but does Melifix really help in anyway to heal faster? I used it many times before but I dont see the difference in healing speed. Maybe too subtle of a difference that it doesnt matter?

I dont use the stuff. The owner of my favorite mom & pop LFS, uses the "Pond" Melafix at half strength as a preventative when recieving a new shipment. He believes Melafix is a useful product.

kittie kat beat me to it …..

I thought there were some studies that showed it worked.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0882401016302984

Among others.

However, I'm not looking for something that merely, kind of works. I want treatments that have the greatest efficacy for the least amount of risk. Melafix isn't that.

For Aeromonas, my first choice would probably be ciprofloxacin. Very good chance of working and almost no risk to the fish.

Personally I would say that study demonstrated a fail, not that it worked.

I tried looking for studies on Melafix and its main ingredient that showed that it didn't work. I found studies that showed it work so I left it alone.

There are plenty of other reasons not to use it.
