Dissolve salt first before adding. As for dosage, I usually do a tablespoon per 5g. It will not matter whether you are using table salt or 'aquarium' salt (fancy way to profit so easily on the part of the stores) as the iodine concentration is nothing to be concerned of.

So you are saying the regualr salt we use in our foods is just fine

got a question. i think my ck has ich so i salted the tank. i'm in hawaii and the tank temp is already about 84 degrees. i picked up 2 150watt heaters that were $30 each, but i don't know if its worth it to throw them in just to increase the tank tem 2 degrees. advice?

Yes. I do not see any reason to be concern about its use.

That will be fine. Then add salt gradually. Dissolve before adding though.

thanks.

should i not be using carbon filtering while i'm using salt? what about water changes? should i be doing that daily or something?

With certain Meds, you should remove the carbon, but with salt, you don't need to. Do water changes every 3 days until ich is gone.

Depending on your water parameters, you can do water changes as frequently as possible but you have to add back the amount of salt by the amount of water you replaced since only water changes can remove the salt. Carbon is fine for use as it does not remove salt.

the salt and high temp method works fine. if this does not work (which it will work) you can use ich-attack. it's all-natural and won't harm your fish. check out the ich sticky in the fish health forum. has all kinds of info on treatments
