Does my new Red Terror look stressed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice female. Well first of all $60 is nothing for a festae. Second of coarse she was stressed, she just got moved to a new home. And IMO you dont need color enhancing food for festae.

Beautiful festae Oscar. Love it. Been trying to find one at my lfs so I can grow one out. When and if I find one I'll be buy 2-3 of them. They are beautiful fish.

I'm not sure where you are from but but here in Texas, $60 is a chunk for a fish lol. Aro, discuss and peacock bass are only $10 more and those are considered our "high dollar fish" lol. We're a bunch of cheapos in Texas :p my hubby made me save my own money to buy her. That's kinda hard when I'm a stay @ home Mom...in case you weren't aware, that job doesn't pay in any real currency, only hugs, kisses, snotty noses and dirty diapers LMBO. So, I made the choice to sell some stuff I've been holding on to.

It's not necessarily just color enhancing that I was looking for. I wanted mainly a food with the most nutrition first then color enhancing was second. After lots of research, I decided to go with NLS, Cobalt and May Geo's new line of food. All of them had the highest amount of nutrition, Cobalt being the most nutrition of all. I like giving a variety of food. I also feed frozen krill and will be getting red worms from my local bait shop.

I tried Aqueon color pellets and hikari and she didn't care for those. I gave her some of the Nat Geo and she gobbled it up quickly :) success! I'm waiting on the NLS and Cobalt, I ordered them off Dr. Foster and Smith

Wow, dedicated. That's awesome. Most 16 year old are only worried about their girlfriend/boyfriend, causing trouble and getting their first car.

It took me quite some time to find mine. It's a pretty rare fish here as well. I think our price of living is just cheaper. They charge $100 for some grow outs but that's about the highest you'll pay for any fish here.

Actually, they had a 18-20" arowana they were selling for $120 & a 2-2 1/2' aro for $180. I prefer to grow mine out myself. It's more rewarding knowing that I was the one to raise it.

Thank you, I think she's gonna be a stunner as well. She just needs time. Are the red worms from a bait shop ok? We use chemicals on our yard so that's out of the question  also, when you feed crickets, do you pull the legs off? I was told bugs are ok as long as you pull legs and wings off. Didn't know if that's a myth or truth...any live food (minnows and ghost shrimp) we have ever used has been quarantined and gut loaded. My husband likes to feed minnows to his Ruben red peacock, I think he enjoys watching the hunt lol. But we very rarely use minnows. Maybe once every 3-4 months we'll feed a few.

I have fed many worms from the bait shop with no issues, but I've recently started a red worm compost farm that provides me with hundreds of worms. I chop up my vegetable waste and feed it to the worms. I use the compost in my yard, and feed the worms to my fish. I paid for my worm farm, but you can find some diy versions on youtube. It's actually pretty cool. You can order a few hundred online and watch them multiply. My centrals and my Africans love them, so you and your husband can share. Here are a couple links for your reference.

As far as the crickets, the only advantage I see is they can't escape your tank with no legs, lol. That happens from time to time. I don't think it makes a difference to the fish. My fish love em, legs and all.

My Grandpa actually built a worm farm for when he used to fish very often. He tried making money doing it too but there wasn't a very high demand for worms lol. Unfortunately, he quit fishing due to health issues. I'll talk to him about it all tomorrow too.

The crickets shouldn't be able to escape. My tank is pretty well sealed since I used to have a blue mud bug...ironically, he escaped though LMBO. He escaped when I was remodeling my aquarium and left the tank unattended without the lids on for about an hour.

She look great IMO. Give a little time and she will look much better.

Thank you :) I just got her temporary home set up and she's loving it! I'm keeping her in a 30 until I get my 75 exactly how I want it. May just go ahead and get 100+ Gallon if I can find a good deal on CL
