mass.
I just got some water running through my new setup to test for leaks and just see how it all goes. But, it seems that I need to crank the ball valve on the return end way down so it does suck the sump dry. I do have the valve on the drain end open all the way.

So when it's running the 4 return nozzles just seem like they don't have allot of pressure. I was hoping for more.

Please take a look and let me know the truth if anything is wrong a or needs to be change. Just let me have it. :)

Thanks

Looks fine, your pump is just over-powered for the 1" drains. Put that power to use and send the water through a micron cartridge on its way back to the tank. BTW a couple of extra unions! Also you should not have put a valve on your drain. you will never be able to use it, limiting the drain will cause a flood in your living room. Cut that fancy valve union combo out and put it to use somewhere else!

Thanks for the advice. the reason the ball valve is on the drain is just in case there was a problem and I need to to stop the drain quickly. I never planed on restricting the drain.

Also, what do you mean by "BTW a couple of extra unions!" Where should the unions go?

Thanks for help

Now I do have an ocean clear filter I would like to use. Should that be put on the exit side of the pump?

Thanks

Yup, on the exit side, between the pump and the tank. Also, that valve between sump and tank, that is only for servicing, right? you do not want to restrict flow into a pump.

There is an extra union between pump and sump, and pump and return. Not a big deal. Just $$'s.

if thats a saltwater tank i wouldnt put bioballs in that chamber, the water isnt going to be dripping over them even if you do.. i would use some liverock rumble. would work better for you. or a large piece of cheatto

Tank125: The valve is just for Servicing.

Mosthated: I plan on putting bioballs in and a drip plate above. This is just the test phase to make sure there are no leaks or problems.

The fact the your sump run dry if you open up the return valve is a sign that you dont have sufficent return from your over-flows. You dont say how much 'head' you pump has to work to get the water back to your main tank, but @ 16' of head your pump outputs about 1800 Gal/H and considering that 1" of return pipe return a maximum of around 600Gal/H, you should have at least 3" of return pipe diameter to be safe. That explains why you find that you dont have much pressure out of return nozzels, your probably just pumping about 1000Gal/H since your valve seems about half open.

IF its salt water i still wouldnt run bioballs in there.. ( i think this is a SW sump because you have the first chamber labled for a skimmer) If your return pump is pushing to much water put a T inline right after the pump with a ball value on it and let it push excess water back in the skimmer chamber.. double skim the water want hurt.
