What kind of fish are you referring to?
There is a difference between overfeeding, and feeding small amounts more frequently.
Overfeeding can play a major hazard on your fish tank's water chemistry. Which in return is bad for the fish, and will stress the fish=color loss, etc.

I don't over feed I just read it somewhere and became curious but I can see how that could turn bad fast now that you point it out

i had a discus that was a pig. it would try to eat everything in sight. its stomach bloated and about two days later i woke up and it was dead with its stomach torn with its guts pouring out. Over feeding(or maybe over eating) might cause your fish to blow up.

is this really something that anyone has to worry about? the threads in this section have got so boring lately, feels like I'm taking a customer survey

Overfeeding is bad for the fishes health as well as for the water quality. The excess food produces extra waste.
