Does petsmart carry complex lighting?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what ever fixture you get i wouldnt get it from petsmart. very high prices for the fixture, also dont expect most fixtures to come with a bulb.

i dont know how you are financially, but if you want i could point you to what i consider a cheap starter fixture, it will do enough to get you buy a beable to grow plants.

this is what people would classify as cheap chinese crap but ive used them before they get the job done.
depend upon the plants you want you could get

or

(note 2 of these a actinic bulbs and should be replaced in your tank, i put this one as suggestion for a high lighting system)
or

now these do come with bulbs, unlike most fixtures, however oddysea bulbs are pretty low quality(light output is sub par) so you would benefit by replacing bulbs even if there still new.

note ive only used the t5 systems before never the power compact ones

Thanks for your help buddy.

With such a fixture, would i need a canopy? after investing so much money this would probably be my only setup and i will not go larger.

no they come with some legs, i consider them to be pretty bad. so i took them off mine i just set it above my tank with it just sitting on the edges.
if you have cats or kids that could possible knock it into the tank you could either
a buy glass lid
b buy acrylic sheet cut it yourself to fit.
c buy a thin strip of wood, they probably sell them near the trim, and cut strips to go over the tank, then set the light on top of those. i ve done this one of my tanks but its pretty scary when i see my cat stand on top of them lol.

since you have a 55 with a middle brace the chance of a 48" light falling in your tank is alot less. id probably just set them/it on top.

yea give me a second

nothing wrong with some old fashion goldfish, probably should have scrapped the algae before pics tho

i wish my planted tank was more to look at but its newly set up(actually completely dropped out of freshwater for a while for a reef tank back in fresh now), notice it does have a oddysea on it. i eventually plan a hair grass carpet, some anubius, maybe rotala. im playing around with the idea of colored plants like red ludwigia or yellowish/ pinkish plants.
