your girlfriend's
this is the fish in my avatar.. caught in kendall just south of miami. with it's colors and patterns of spots it doesn't look like an ocellaris. maybe a hybrid? with mono or perhaps some orino in it's past?
love to here what you guys think.Kendale Lakes-Lindgren Acres-201.jpgIMG950092.jpg

I get to go down in a couple of months Togo fishing and I can't wait!but the whole thing was I believe in the 60's they released ocell/mono hybrids(farmies) and temensis in the canals.te temensis didn't do good but the farmies thrived.this whole project was to get spotted tilapia Oscar and other cichlid populations under control.and that's the whole story.but like the one you caught there is a whole bunch of variation in patterns.there was one on YouTube where a guy thought he caught a kelberi lol

1984-1987 was the official introduction by the FWC. over 20,000 were released into 3 canals(claimed ocellaris but most likely ocel/mono hybird) 3,000 orinomensis). C-4 , C-103 , C-102.. yes, they started showing up afew in the 60's along with the wave of other exotics.. they have done an awesome job getting rid of the exotics. you will find hardly any spotted tilapia or oscars were peacocks are plentiful unlike across the everglades into naples where peacocks are few and far between yet cichlids and oscars are everywhere like bluegill.. One thing i find interesting is they really don't like mayan cichlids.
I go down there no less than 5 times each year.. if you want to know some great spots where you don't need a boat PM me.

Florida hybrids come in all different colors and shades hard to tell whats in there genes like this guy.

Yea, its not mine, its another members, but I'm getting one pretty soon.

That first one is beautiful. A few years back a vendor in Florida was selling them as Butterfly Ocell.

Here's an ocell introduced in the Lake Wilson Resorvior, Hawaii in 1965. Caught in 2009.
