The area you have the intake in could change a little. I would have a top piece where the intake is liek a top, then drill a hole and install a bulkhead then make a spray bar with the pvc, then under that you could make a tray with holes in it, then you could add a filter pad to pick up the big stuff instead of it going into the refuge area where it would sit. Something similar to the way mine are set up.
