From what I understand, All really aggressive cichlids are bred right through dividers when there isnt enough size difference to make a door or hole for the female..

you breed cichlids through dividers when you don't want them to thrash each other to death (potentially). size is often a reason, but the bigger reason is that one of them isn't ready to breed.
they can very well breed through dividers - eggs can get fertilized, but you will probably not get as high a fertilization rate compared to without a divider.

I didn't know fish could breed through a divider. Do people do this? Or rather, do people's fish do this?

Small points that may help.......
Put your heater in a protective sleeve so that she does not break it.
If you had the filtration (if that is what is at the top of the female's side) on the males side you can possibly aim the outflow towards the large rock. That will obviously assist with the milt coming in contact with the eggs. IMO of course.
