Hello

Does Water Hycathin root?
I have seen water hycathin in area where I go fishing its about 30 feet out from the lake shore .
However it never moves its several large plants that are allways in same area .
I was under the impression it was a floating plant that did NOT root .
I ask this as trying to get some for my pond was going to let it float but might now plant the roots in a pot with gravel.

Thanks

It can in shallow water were the roots can reach the bottom, but they are not a plant that can be permantely planted. The roots are designed to absorb nutrients through the water. I have had hyacinths root around the edges of my pond, but they are easily pulled out from fish, current, etc.

Thanks I imagine this clump of hycathin is caught by something maybe trees or maybe sand bank area in the lake.
I want to get it for my pond but afraid to swim out to get it as its a lake gators are sometimes found in . I am going to try throwing some make shift hoop with rope to pull it in.

If you get it, quarantine it for several weeks for snails, flukes and a few other 'nasties'.

Thanks from what I understand fluke tabs are what is used and you let the plants float in vat of water few days ?

Thanks I actually got some today after work with a long expandable skimmer pool bar with a make shift hook on the end .

However it wasnt water hycathin it was some type plant with large leaves that was rooted and not clustered like water hycathin but from the shore it looked like water hycathin.

I will find it as canals here have it this looked very much like it but it was rooted individual plants clustered to look very much like water hycathin.

i'm guessing Hycathin is mispelled for hyacinth...
you show that you're from miami... aren't those plants highly illegal in your state???
