It wasnt water lettuce though thought could have been it was this-

however they were so close together so many of them and many few inches above the water that I thought it was water hycathin .
The fact that they were actually rooted and never moved regardless of water depth or current made me think it wasnt but thought might be huge clumps of it caught in fallen trees but after getting some looked it up and just regular lilies .
Some of the leaves extended some distance out of the water
I have now what I was looking for in the pond and used fluke tabs while quarantined them .
