In a dream
I recently bought an AC 30 for our 10 gallon tank after reading all the positive feedback. I was happy with the result so when we purchased our new 40 gallon i decided to get an AC70. Little did i know, its a rattling vibrating machine that is driving me nuts! Right now i have the cover off and its not as bad but i didnt buy a brand new filter to leave the cover off!

I was considering buying a AC110 when i get my bigger tank but now im having second thoughts. Anyone else having this probelm? From what i have read it seems there are more problems with the AC70 than any other model. Is my filter defective or have other people wanted to smash their filter because of the noise? Thx in advance.

I smashed my old AC110 because of noise.

I was very unimpressed for all the praise they receive. The inlet tube was cracked out of the box but I let that go, then it lasted a month or so before the impeller got sand or something in it and wouldn't stop making horrid noises. I cleaned it out a bunch, did everything I could, it just didn't want to play nice. So I smashed it... Felt Great...

So yea, I think it's hit or miss. I personally won't buy another.

Maybe it's a lemon I have a few AC's and they should not rattle. There's should ne a quiet humming noise but that's all...shouldn't be unbearable. Sometimes if the lid is not aligned and closed properly it will rattle. My AC's are about 10 ft from my bed and I sleep well :)

I've only used the AC110 and have nothing bad to say about it. Are you sure you put the leveling part on the bottom of it?

yeah i made sure it was level. I also noticed than when i decrease the flow rate, it rattles even more. My AC30 works perfectly and is very quiet. So i dont know whats up with my AC70.

I have an AC 70 and an AC 110...i love them both!!!! favorite filter ever

Looks like you got a bad one or something. My AC110 is hands down the best HOB filter I've ever owned.

Do you have sand in the tank? I have sand in mine, and periodically I have to disassemble it and clean it. It will start to rattle and grind due to the sand particle getting in the impeller.

Nope no sand just regular gravel. I just cant figure it out. I tried taking out the intakes and making sure it was on correctly but didnt make a difference. As far as the leveling device on the bottom, the angle position can vary or does it go only one way?

When I had to go buy another ac110, the new one rattled. I returned it for another. You may do that? I lost my receipt for the first one, so I go to Petsmart, buy one, then go and return the old one lol.
