I been watching my Jewel cichlid doing some funny stuff. I'll see it start at one end of the tank, then swim towards the other doing a pattern. It will go behind the filter intake, over the heater, around the plant, through the cave then back to the beginning and repeats it the exact same way over and over. It will do it like 10-15 times then it changes the pattern. Instead this time it will make small changes like instead of going over the heater it will go under it, or instead of behind the filter intake it will go in front of it.

It usually will do it after it eats or in the morning when the lights come on. Sometimes when it does these obstacle courses, during one of them another fish will get in the way and block the fish. Then the fish either immediately changes course, or will stop and look for a second and then figure out what way to go, it might go under the fish, or over or around.

You ever see your fish do this stuff? The fish looks happy when it does it. Alot of times I see the fish swimming from one side of the tank all the way to the other in a straight line. It will stay close to the glass and speed all the way to the other end, then speed all the way back.

no the obstacle course part, but yes have seen my fish speeding along the glass.
LOL This obstacle course would prob make a fun video to watch :D..

so u sending ur jewel to the fish Olympics ??? :D :D :D

haha, no but its kinda fun to watch. I noticed the fish doing this and watched it. Then saw it would change its course and do something different.

one of my texas i have will swim slow then get faster and faster going around the tank in and out of every crack he can find. then he just stops as if nothing happened.

Its pretty much normal for fish to do that, afterall what els can they do...... you want em to do backflips for ya.

Cam

with enough time on your hands, it may be possible :D

I had this one fish that had a particular pattern/habit it would do everyday!... it wud just sit there and not move for days until food was dropped in the tank... does that count?

My syno cat used to do that all the time. He would start at one end of the tank -zoom across to the other end - go up the wall - swim at the top of the water -upside down-zoom to the other side, go around the filter and back down the wall and repeat the process - he used to do it for hours. I should have got a video!
