not to unusual. some have some even more tricky ways of ambushing food.

have not yet heard of anything better than a gar-foxhole, care to elaborate on some of the other ways?

They get darker and darker.......untill they are fully grown the whole body turns metalic brown...and their scales look awesome

ya i just thought it was awkward for my gar to make a hole in the bottom and then ambush his prey from it. he is usually waiting on the surface for the minnows.

My gar do it often.

I once read about gar actually using bait to wait for live fish. Luv to see that in the wild

my gar doesnt do that but mine makes like a huge belly shaped line in the sand like hes rubbing his belly. And it looks really cool and then he will slowly stay there and wait for one to come by. But never built a fox hole, He does sometimes go under the drift wood and pop out with an amazing strike and nails the fish its so cool to watch. The fish dies on impact. Now feeding him comet feeders he will just chase them. No more hiding and killing. :( But thats really cool i need to add more sand in my tank so my gar can do that haha.
