Does your skimmer go crazy at night ???

Yeah mine look like they usually poop right after or while they are eating . Last night I finally connected the drain plug to a empty 2 liter bottle and right before I went to sleep I checked on it and it was working fine since there was very dirty skimate. But when I woke up in the morning 3/4 of the bottle was full but with pretty clear water . It looked like the only dirty skimate it had was the one I saw before going to bed .

It sounds to me like you need to raise the skimmer cup, so the skimmer can form a good foam head.

Is this a HOB skimmer, in sump, or external?
Do you top off the tank at night?
What size tank is it on and what is in the tank?
Is anyone using any cleaning products in the same room as the tank at night? Some areosol products can make skimmers go crazy.

Yes it's a HOB skimmer the remora-s and the cup is at its highest level .i usually try to top of my tank everyday in the morning .its a 60 gallon tank with 2 clownfish 3 chromis 1 pistol shrimp and 2 very small zoeanthids .i also don't use any aerosol products

I'm not really familiar with this skimmer. Can you adjust the amount of water or air going into the skimmer?


There are only three things that should change the water level in a skimmer. the water level the skimmer is in. the amount of air going in to the skimmer. the water going in to the skimmer.

One of those things is causing your issue.
