Nile monitors you all kept before? I kept a nile last time....it was about 8in in length.

ive had a savannah and a nile. the nile was just too mean for my tastes. he hated me and everything about me. my savannah was mean too, but only to other people and rats. she never bit or tail slapped me, but anyone else try and grab her and they better be wearing gloves. i think that monitors are AWESOME creatures. at Pet Kingdom by my house they had a HUGE crocodile monitor about 8ft id guess. if i could get my hands on one of those i might be willing to keep them again. for now im back into snakes though

I had a hatchling Nile that I kept for a long time. He eventually got to be about 4' long including tail when I gave him up. While he was a beautiful animal he just got to be way too much work. Cage cleaning was a battle and vet visits were almost impossible.
The monitor lived for, if memory serves, about 15 years. I had him for three and my brother-in-law had him for 11-12 more.
