Blue Buffalo has become one of the most popular of the higher end dry dog foods. I feed my dog Nutro Natural Choice (venison and whole brown rice formula). This along with Nutro Ultra are another high end company. In general you get what you pay for.
For now it should be on a large breed puppy food. Around one year of age (or sooner if he starts getting a little overweight) he should be put on a large breed adult food. If he can't stay in an ideal weight range he should then be put on a light or weight management formula.
The biggest problem I see at the vet is that people don't realize how much the treats are adding up to each day. People want to give the dog a treat every time it goes out, comes in, looks at them, etc. and by the end of the day it is another meal or two's worth of calories. The best treats are little things like baby carrots. You can even cut these up and using them as a training reward if your boxer likes them enough.
