Hi,
I want to raise my overflow tube closer to the top of my overflow box to make my tank quieter. The issue is that the returns are drilled above the overflow, making it impossible to go straight up. I was thinking about making a "dog leg" with 45 degree elbows to get the overflow around the returns. has anyone seen or done this before? will this reduce my flow rate? see awfully bad sketch below. Thanks.

You shouldn't have a problem using the 45 degree elbows on your 2" pipe. The reduction of flow will be minimum. If at all possible I would try to have the elbow towards the bottom of the overflow instead of on the top so the straight drop will give the water some momentum before it hits the elbow.
