I did tell animal control and the officer that called me back both what happened.. They told me that being the dog is skittish it would just run from them too.. (No kiddin:screwy:) Then told me they couldn't do anything that night anyway being they were off duty in a half hour..:irked: I think that's what put me over the edge besides this dog pestering my family..

The dog does have a collar with tag on it but i can't even come outside and that dog halls balls now.. guess he's having flash backs of me coming at him with a mag light and 2x4..lol.. So needless to say i think the trust thing is gone between the 2 of us..

Is it not their job to catch dogs that run from them? Pretty much what they're telling you is that they won't help you because the job is difficult. That's just pathetic.

yeah just think about, what if he went after your kid instead of the dog that first time? that would have been all bad. i dont think local law enforcement wants that kind of liability on their hands

Sounds like an unaltered male hanging around because you have a couple females. If he had been serious about the bite to your lab there would have been a lot of damage. So you're lucky no one got hurt. I think it's gonna be up to you to catch him yourself. I'd get a slip lead, some food and try and catch him. Then you can take him to the shelter.
That's what I would do. Otherwise bug the crap out of animal control until they finally catch him.

I'm gonna check when i get home today if he's still coming around and then, we'll see how far i have to take this.. If it would have been one of my kids that got attacked the dog would have been dead no questions asked..
Maybe a paintball gun will make him leave and also make the owners aware he's not wanted where he's been going..

yeah, sounds like he's pretty scared of you already, so i dont think he's one of those pyscho killer pits. just a dog on the loose, but he can be dangerous nonetheless. if you can get him to leave with non-letal methods, that would be ideal. but there's no guarantee he wont come back

I wish you could find the owner! I mean do whatever you have to do to protect your family but if there was a way to find the owner that would be the best bet. I'm sure if you keep calling and complaining to animal control, they will come!

If i see him again today i'm gonna go knocking on more doors and see if anyone knows who or where this dog belongs.. I really love my dogs and i'm sure someone loves that dog too.. That's why i want to explore every avenue before i do anything serious..
The last thing i want to do is be my kids show and tell at school and hear my kids say "My dad shot a dog this summer" :(

Yeah dont shoot it, esp if it has tags.... thats someone elses loved pet even if its a pain in the rear end for you. Last thing you want is them coming at you because you shot their dog. Ontop of that if your dogs and kids have no damage.... I would think it would be hard to say the dog attacked first. I do agree that the dog could be dangerous however if it bit your dogs back and didnt draw blood I dont think it means any business killing or hurting your dogs.... if it was able to bite your dogs back then it could have drew blood if it really wanted too imo... but it didnt. I would do whatever you can without hurting the dog.

Agree, however if it comes back and hurts or even kills your dog or one of your children, you are going to wish you would have shot it. I know it is someones beloved pet but they should do a better job of keeping it secure. especially if it has a history of attacking or getting out. Hate to play the pitbull card but they are "feared" by people (especially with kids) which if I owned one would make me want to keep it in the yard or whatever even more! I mean I love pit bulls but they have a bad reputation and that is the truth. Some people will do whatever it takes to get that breed euthinized. Not you mike but Im saying in general, if I owned a pit I would make sure it isn't out of my sight for it's own good.
