Dog will not leave tank alone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My pup Rottweiler did the same thing when I upgraded to a larger tank, he would just stare and bark at it but I would pull on the scruff of his neck and tell him "no", "what are you doing" and he would just stare at me like he knew he'd done wrong. although i wouldn't recommend doing this to a fully grown rott if he has not been disciplined in that manor, whatever method it is you decide to discipline your dog, be consistent, patient, and confident.

I have very stubborn Pitbulls and American Bulldogs and I found the best way of disciplining is either a spray bottle or a swift flick of the nose. It's just a little sting for a few seconds, but once you flick them in the nose they KNOW they did something wrong and despite it being totally harmless, they simply just can't STAND IT. All I have to do at this point is tuck my middle finger under my thumb and make the "Flick-stance" with my hand and they will immediately stop w/e they are doing and walk away.

I had a problem w/ a large 13"+ Midas a few years back....... a dominant male Pitbull and a dominant male Midas don't really "see eye to eye" on a lot of things, so they would literally have a stand-off everytime the dogs walked past his tank and it was actually very interesting to see the territorial behavior between the 2, but eventually, just like someone said, the dog lost interest in him and the Midas just got used to them.

Didn't stop him from attacking ME when I went to work on his tanks though :(

It is interesting to watch that's for sure ....she's always been a strange dog

I have a cat thats a little over a year old. He does the weirdest things (He's a Tuxedo) in general....not always fish related.

I have one tank in my fish room (garage) that is a 40G breeder and only sits 6" off the floor,-the rim is about 20" high, no top on it and one gold fish in it. He watches it for hours. He also stretches out - on his toes - to take a drink out of it. I did a water change on Tuesday and he just about jumped in the tank!

He is still young, and for some reason loves water. Not being wet or in it, mind you, but just loves water! He jumps in the tub too, just after I shower, or if I just get home, and need to use the restroom- he flies in behind me and jumps in the tub-waits for me to finish- then hops back out and follows me around till I feed of snuggle him (his choice, lol)

I think your dog is just trying to keep the peace. lol

I have the same problem with my cat, although she's a lot older, at 6 years. I hate having to replace the water she drinks out of the water reservoir.

my dog fights my male dovii all the time, in fact he knows when she is coming in the room and shoot to that side of the tank, it wired because he isnt that aggressive toward me going to the tank. they been at it for years

thats an old video now the dovii is over 14" its much more violent to watch, my dog still hasn't go board.
