ok so what size tank should i buy to raise the pups? if I buy them from Eggs? money no prob.

I am guessing you work with fish on a professional level thats awesome what would you suggest for pups?

and what temp is ideal? im getting a ton of diffrent answers..

As for which species of benthic sharks is best to keep.

It's really about you personal preference & what you ultimate plans are for the sharks and the pond. By that I mean - do you just want to keep a mini-natural habitat, or do you want to breed them. Also note - each species has their own personal charms & beauty.

As for buy them as eggs - I wouldn't recommended it unless you have some experience hatching & raising sharks. Often times - there's difficult in getting newly hatched sharks to feed, which can result in the pup dieing.

Your actually much better off getting a pup that's a few months old - basically 8-12". At these sizes the pups are much easier keep alive - since they've already been feeding. And will most likely eat with in less than a week after being placed in your tank.

As for tank size - there's many opinion on this. Some claim you can keep pups of these species in a 50 gallon tank. But since the plan is to keep the pup in a tank until it about 18" long. You want a tank that in the 150-180 gallon range(basically 60-72" long x 24" wide).

After what temperature to keep them at - again it depends on the species.

While the Bamboos, Epaulette, & catsharks(Coral/Marbled) general do best between 72-82F. The California Horn tend to like waters that's slightly cooler in the 65-75F range.

what kind of shark do you keep?

And for a starter what would be the best to breed?

my favorites are the marbled and horn.. I have tons of information on sharks but want to hear from actual owners.. or anyone who has owned a shark.

thats what I heard for temps though the best will try and keep it around 72~

what kind of shark do you keep?

Presently - none. I'm working my future Fish room (which is presently a large storage area). Where I'm hoping to set a couple of pond for sharks. I've dealt with bamboos & the coral cat some in the past.

And for a starter what would be the best to breed?

Generally the bamboos & epaulettes- tend to be the easiest - relatively speaking. Still it may take several years to get eggs that actually hatch. And I've actually talked with people who have breed these Sharks. Also Note - there's an article in the upcoming Nov. issue of FAMA on breeding sharks in home aquaria.

I also love horns. In fact - plan on setting up a pond to breed them. While I've never owned any -Yet. I've talked with several that have kept Horns. Most Horn owners - tend to love their Horns, often saying that they are some of the coolest sharks they've ever kept.

As for marbled cats - I tend to prefer Coral cats. Since Corals are more active, and more brightly colored - IMO.

ok what would 8x4x3(height) give me gallon wize and is that big enough to breed in it?

if not I will make it bigger but im thinking two tanks and having 2 foot sumps on each side to the end of the wall.. maybe 2 40 breeder tanks for sumps unless i build them for myself as well..

it is going to be Coral's or Horns.. :headbang2

Ps. I just went out to sushi with my girlfriend and they have a great tank there im guessing a 210 with a bunch of fish but have 1 brown banded bamboo makes me want to move along the project.. but patience is perfection...

the room is 10 by 12 lol sorry..

Well I've heard of people breeding Coral cats in 300 gallon ponds/tanks. So they would certainly work for an 8'long x 4' wide tank.

BTW- the 3ft height(depth) - not really needed - unless you like the addition amount of water, water changes, & increased difficult cleaning the tank/pond. Remember - with shark & ray tanks - surface area(footprint) is more important than total volume.

As for Horns - everything I've heard & read suggest they need about the same amount of space a pair of large Bamboos - at least a 10' x 5' pond or pond that's that least about 8' in diameter.

decided against sharks for the pond getting stingrays...

I will do a tank for 2x coral cats when I have more experience..

and will be a Tank because I would like to see them better... and may do 1 banded or a bamboo first too practice.. 310 gallon :o

When the DIY pond is done ill spend like 3-5 hundo on a breeding pair of rays see how that works... probally gonna pick them up from csx on this site.
